How to clean computer desktop
Wondering how to clean a computer desktop? A dirty desktop computer often heats up and slows down. Also, a dirty desktop is not healthy. It could house insects and house lizards.
Organize the Tools
There are a few items you will need in order to clean your computer. These include a can of compressed air, cleaning cloths, zip ties (if needed), scissors (if needed), and a pencil or pen. It is important not to use a vacuum cleaner to clean dust off components-this can damage them. If dusting is difficult to remove with compressed air, use a small paintbrush.
Unplug and Move the Cabinet
When you’re ready to start working, unplug everything from your computer. This includes the power supply and all the cables. If you have a desktop, clean it with compressed air if necessary.
You may want to move the cabinet to a dry open space where you can dust off without any issues.
Open Your Case
Computer cases have evolved over the years and are now much more difficult to open than they used to be. However, all it takes is unscrewing two screws on the back of the case to get inside.
But if you have a glass panel on one side, then be careful not to break it. Remove that glass panel first and store it away until you assemble your computer again.
Clean Dust From the Inside Using Compressed Air
Dust can accumulate overtime on the internal components of your computer, which can lead to overheating and other problems. Canned air is a cheap and easy way to clean it off.
Be sure to keep your face away from the PC case when spraying; use a cotton swab, finger, or flashlight to illuminate areas that are hard to see. Blow the dust out of your case and not further into it–use a straw if available.
Cleaning GPU, CPU and Cabinet Fans
When cleaning your computer, the first step is to remove all of the peripherals. You can then use a pen or pencil to prevent the blades from spinning while you blow compressed air into the fan vents.
Monitor or LCD Screen
LCD screens or monitors should be cleaned using a microfiber cloth and a mild, non-ammonia based cleaner. Be sure to turn off the laptop computer and unplug the monitor before cleaning. Do not use abrasive cloths or ammonia-based solutions to clean the screen, as they can damage it.
To clean your monitor or LCD screen, make a solution of soap and detergent. Wipe the screen gently with a damp microfiber cloth, avoiding dripping or saturating the screen. Finally, dry the screen with a soft cloth.
How often should I clean my computer?
There are a variety of reasons you may want to clean your computer. One of the most important is that if your computer is on the floor, it can easily become dirty and dusty. In general, it is recommended to clean your computer every 6 months.
Safety precautions While Cleaning your Desktop

Static electricity is a common danger that can cause great harm if not dealt with properly. One of the easiest and most effective ways to combat static electricity is by wearing a static strap. In addition, you should avoid wearing synthetic clothes when working on or around computer equipment and try to stay in drier climates as much as possible.
Your computer needs to be cleaned on a regular basis to remove dust and debris that can accumulate and cause the system to run slowly or make noise. The intake fan in most computers sucks in air, which also brings in the dust.
You know what! I just cleaned my PC and there was a spider web in it, 🙁 Yeah, I know. And tons of dust. I cleaned it all. Now it looks great from the window.
